The problem I am focusing on is the impact of language and communication differences on small global teams. These teams bring together people from all over the world, and they use tech to collaborate in real time and asynchronously. Good communication is vital, but things like different communication styles and cultural differences can help or hurt team performance. The language barrier, which often occurs with these differences, causes inefficiencies in teamwork.

In my Intercultural Communication class, I dug deep into how identity, language, and cultural space affect how people from different backgrounds talk to each other. And in The Sociology of Law, I explored how our perspectives shape our moral codes and how we talk about them.

Communication studies can be a game-changer for organizations. They can set up rules to make sure everyone can chat openly, even with language and culture gaps. I've found that having one-on-one chats with ESL speakers can boost their confidence. Understanding how cultural norms shape word meanings helps avoid misunderstandings.
